kennel floor

I am in the process of building a kennel for my pup. id like some input on the floor. should I go with a full solid concrete floor or do half concrete and half dirt? its going to be roughly 10 by 10 or 8 by 10. and as for sealing the floor would you recommend that or just leave the floor untreated? this is going to be his kennel/ run outside for when we are not home so id like to make it as accommodating to him as possible. thanks guys

I would go all concrete as it is the easiest to clean. Put a house or something in their for the pup to lay in/on and if you can, cover the area for shade as well as protection from the weather. One nice thing about concrete over the whole thing is you don't have to worry about the little rascals digging out.

Easy clean up, I sealed mine so it wont soak up the pee smell.
I also put a stall mat in there in case the concrete gets too cold, and gives him a nice place to lay in the sun.

concrete and stall mat is nice. dirt is dirty. clean cedar shavings in a box keeps them smelling fresh

I think that the complete floor is the route I will take. I was just thinking that a half floor would be Nice for him I never considered the dirtyoart though. That is guys

so if you hunt chukar, hills, rough shale, I have been told that you can condition pads in the kennel by either gravel or "rough" concrete floor. I am shifting to a new pad, rough concrete for this reason...

have you seen what their elbows end up looking like? rough will also hold bacteria and stink. Light brush finish is recommended. Can't rely on a kennel to condition dogs feet.

My kennel for my lab is 12 X13, 1/2 covered by my carport roof.
I have a igloo dog house. and the floor is pea gravel.
Cheap and clean. just rake it once in awhile.
Any bad stuff not picked up just filters away.
I clean up droppings every day.

I bed her house with straw so she can nest.

Broom finish, scuffs the pads some,keeps the nails trimmed and prevents the slipping and sliding when wet that can cause a soft tissue injury that takes weeks to heal.

Pea gravel is a great option and it's not so permanent. My dogs have concrete inside and an outdoor run with pea gravel.
