How to make the best of an OIL opportunity?

So I have a multi-season elk tag AND one of the 3 Peaches Ridge September rifle tags.  Any chance of returning my MS for someone less fortunate than me?  Got so excited when I drew MS, I purchased immediately.  346 is permit only so no opportunity to do hunting/scouting combo.     I may be forced into early retirement for this one.  I just got a bow and was hoping to try all 3 weapons this year.  I'm really not whining since I see this as a OIL opportunity.  My only regret is my son and hunting partner may not be in the country to share this with me.

If you put in for any archery or muzzleloader elk permits I doubt they would let you return the multi season, otherwise who knows. Even if they don't let you return it dont bother with the other seasons unless they are after you run out of time on your peaches tag

Lets hope my idea doesn't come into play, I'd much rather see grip n grins of a big stinky bull than a spike or cow from late archery

You actually have the perfect storm, you can hunt archery/Muzzy Elk  with your buddies and be scouting for your rifle bull tag at the same time

What would be the point of carrying a weapon during those seasons, only an opportunity to slip up and give in to temptation

Peaches Ridge also includes 336, which is open for early archery, so you could hunt that unit with your bow, and also consider it scouting for your special permit hunt.

Returning the tag won't be allowed due to the fact that you applied for special permits. Actually I'm not sure multi-season tags can be exchanged for a different tag even if you had not applied for permits.

Either way I'm certain you're stuck with that tag. But the thing is, you may need it. What if you aren't successful during your special permit hunt?

Scout with your buddies while they hunt. Take your rifle in there when your tag is valid and knock down a beast. If for whatever reason it doesn't happen, return with a muzzleloader and kill a spike.

I don't see where lies any sort of problem to this situation

But I could use my Great Plains .54 or my bow to make it more challenging No?

Scouring the forest map all weekend.  Right now thinking I'll scout 346 thru the summer and 336 in Sept.  Right now no commitments for hunting partners.  Been looking for new areas to explore.  Going to bring the fishing pole and enjoy the quest.

  OK, call me crazy.  After 15 years at this job and 26 working in schools, I just turned in my notice.  Drawing this tag was a sign from above.  Come September I will be dedicated to one goal.  Between now and then is going to be a struggle.   Maybe I'll be looking for a job in December.

OK, I've quit my job as of Sept. 1.  I have always been a meat hunter taking the opportunity that is presented.  I would like to get one good WA trophy.  I don't know how to judge the inches.  Anybody got a visual guideline on what to try to achieve with a Peaches Ridge tag.  Do I need someone to hold my bullets or arrows?

I have the archery tag and am going to try and hold out for a decent 6pt or better
I have always shot the smaller bulls , when a shot presented itself I took it.
This year I will wait.
I am retired now and will be up there for the entire season.
My thoughts
look for 3 crown points on top, that's a quick indicator of a good bull, long eye guards, mass, lots of ivory tips are another.
If you go holy sheet when you see him, its probably worth taking

Awesome!    Go look for RadSav's recent post about field judging elk and watch videos until you're blue in the face with good bulls.  Characteristics like crowns and good whale tails will not guarantee a 330 bull but will get you into 6x6 territory.

I dream about one I looked at 2 years ago in WY a mile away, after I had already tagged out.  Didn't have a tag last year.  Maybe this is my year.  I'll pull my Bugle ' s out and start pinning pictures up in the house.

Just go out and hunt hard and have some fun.  Shoot whatever bull you see that give you the wow factor.  Enjoy the opportunity and post pics and a story please.

I think some great ideas have been presented here.  My tag would be filled at the end of that rifle rut tag though for sure.  Learn to judge elk, look at lots of pics.

the best way to judge them is the holy crap factor...when you look at the bull and think holy crap...SHOOT HIM!
