I drew peaches ridge archery tag. My first bull tag ever! Headed over next weekend to get a feel of the area. Looks like I better ramp up my training and More camping trips are in order. Can't wait.

Got a good weekend of scouting in and had a chance to learn the area a bit more. Did see some elk, deer, lots of elk sign.. Old rubs and I assume in the coming months will start seeing more fresh rubs. On a side not had encounter with a cougar 20 ft way!  :yike:

I have a lot to learn in this unit!

Will the orv traffic slow down by start of elk? Or are the elk just used to the high traffic areas?

The elk dont care that much about the orv traffic in that area but i have noticed the less traffic the more i see. If u ask me because its a simi. new area for u i think u should make 2 back up spots.  Have 2 spots only a 20min walk from the road with a 1/2 of a 50lbs salt lick at both spots. Make a blind 50yards away from the salt and were u think the elk wont come out from. Obviously do it next to a game trial.  That way u have 2 spots that u can get to fast and easy just incase u get a late start that morning or evening or just because u been busting ur butt for 3 days straight and ur back hurts and need one day day off or somthing.  U can call it old trusty or somthing lol.  Have one spot u think would b good for a morning sitting spot and one for a evening hunt.  If ur lucky find a spot that seems a little cooler then most areas due to the dence canopy above or somthing. That way when u r feeling like its too hot for he elk to come out in the middle of the day u can go to that spot and feel confident that ur sitting in a good spot.  But actually that tag is so good i think u wont need the elk to come to u and u wont need a back up spot becouse u will know where the elk r at all times amd they will b everywhere. Happy hunting.

After multiple scouting trips to learn the area, possible camping spots, seeing plenty of cows, finally on Saturday I found 3 different bulls. 2 of them were in an area where I felt there should be bulls and the 3rd was in a new area. Been a fun adventure so far and I'm really enjoying it.  Took the logging roads home through Stampede for a change. Driving I90 over gets boring. On drive home stopped and picked some huckleberries. Wife said she is going to make something with them. Sure it will be good!

I did hang two trail cams in an area where I feel should be productive. Will check them in a few weeks.
