Area 8-2 (Everett) Crabbing opens soon, open seat *DONE!*
« on: June 17, 2015, 10:05:19 AM »
So, I've done this in the past and have made a long term friend out of the experience.

What I am offering is a half day of crabbing. Boat, gear gas, snacks, bait, and fishing gear for flounder will be provided. You will need a license, cooler/ice for taking crab home.

When.....after the season opens and the weather and timing work out.

Who...not just anyone. I'm looking to take out somebody that has someone that needs a trip on the water. Not just wants to go. Maybe you have a son or daughter that is/has served our country and could use a little time out on the boat. Maybe you have a dad that is getting on up in years and could use a little floating around time. Maybe, like me, you have a brother or sister that has been through some tough times and could use a morning away. Maybe you have a son or daughter that is on break from college and you want to do something nice. See what I'm getting at...

The idea would be to meet me at the Everett dock. I'll be in the water and ready to go. You must have a license as well as the 3rd person. My boat is an 18 foot North River and is proven out on the water. I like to crab a short run out of Everett. If the weather is nasty we will simply reschedule.

While the pots are soaking I like to fish for flounder. A general fishing liscense will be needed if you want to fish. I usually use them as crab bait but if they are decent sized we could filet them out for you. If you don't know much about crabbing don't worry. The limit is 5 per license and the goal would be to send you home with 5 each, I'll keep my 5. I like to clean them on the way in to the dock. Top shells are kept for count and size, legs get rinsed and put on ice. If you like them live and whole that is up to you. I keep them on ice so they stay alive plenty long to get home and cook.

So, if you have someone in mind, please send me a pm. We will exchange info and dial in the date/time as we get into July.

Here is a recap of the first trip like this I've done. Mark is still a friend and I enjoy going back and looking at the thread. Hmmm...maybe Mark and I need to get back out for humpies again!

I don't think I would call Carl a pansy......he hunts wolverines with a 12 gauge you know!

You will need gloves sir. You will be pulling all the pots and sorting the crab. My job is to drive the boat and give directions.

I've got a tribal member in my family... dont get any special privileges yet that I'm aware of (by this I mean lawfully guaranteed treaty rights).  They wont let me in, otherwise I'd sue the state for hunting rights and then show you guys (just wait, there's still time)! :bash:

All right we are a green light for Sunday crabbing. If you are out and about around Hat Island and spot a white North River, gray top, swing by, give a wave and a honk. I've got a whole bunch of rockfish carcasses from fishing out of westport with Drock and his crew to put to use. Wish us luck.

FWIW, in my past island life we used to catch a lot of rock and ling cod and always tried to use it as crab bait... It never worked worth a da**.  Keep some salmon or chicken nearby as I wouldn't expect to fill your pots using rockfish guts as bait.  We had better luck with whole rabbits and lamb tongues than we did with cod guts.  Someone else on here may have a different opinion.
