Just ordered a Three Dog Stove for 10x12 wall tent.
« on: June 21, 2015, 04:45:29 PM »
Well after weeks of research and alot of video watching. Reading alot of threads on here I placed a order with Four Dog for a Three Dog stove.

After consulting several folks and even my wife. I decided not to order the water jacket, but opted for the extra side tray instead. We put up a cook shack for our group camps so I do not need to cook on this stove.

But at 64 I am seeing the time when life has to be easier in respects to set up. I recenly bought a 10X12 canvas wall tent for that reason. The wood stove is for drying gear and that future quality deer hunt some where in my future I have 13 points for.

I know that future hunt will be in November and a good chance of snow on the ground. My buddies say well get a Motel room. But thats not my way. When I get drawn I plan to have a traditional as possible experience.

Nights in the wall tent, wood stove, the whole works. I will cook on the stove on that hunt.

So I made my own rain fly out of a white tarp and cut out and beefed up the hole for the stove pipe. With a flap to cover it when the stove is not in use, just like the tent has.

I am still in the search for some kind of light weight hearth for under the stove to protect my floor. I was thinking one of those BQ matts would work fine but I cant find one that dosent reek.  Most the stores now are selling the roll up splatter matts now, not made for under a wood stove.

One guy on here used a oil drip pan with dirt in it, Not a bad idea but dont want to mess with the dirt. So the search is on still for that part of the set up.  Someone suggested Hardy Board. looking at that.

The stove should ship in 7-10 days.

Hope the weather turns so I can use it this fall.

You are going to be a roasted ghost in a 10x12 tent with that stove. Be sure the damper works well!  Nice looking stove.

Yeah maybe. I am kind of warm blooded. Back in the day when hunting seasons were  later we suffered through some real cold nights with a lot less gear.

But like the idea of having a stove I can damper down and keep goin all night.

Spent a night in a 16 x 20 wall tent late muzzy once. Those guys had a air tight stove in there. Slept with both flaps on door open and snowing outside. Crazy.

But better a little more stove than a little less.

Made in the USA, nice choice. I really like the screen over the front dampers on the door. Wish my stove had that to keep embers from popping through. I have to put a piece of steel down under the front legs to keep the floor from getting burned.

Last year for late buck up north we were running 5° in the A.M. you'll be glad you bought the stove.  I love mine.  Wall tent w/ wood stove is the only way to go it adds to the experience IMHO.

I am still in the search as to floor protection. Guy on another thread bought a roll up hearth. Been looking for something like bq Matt. Have not made up my mind yet.

Ghost I would recommend at least 2 "break in burns" I only did one and it still have off an odor inside the the tent.  After the second I didn't notice much of a smell.  Perhaps my first wasn't long/hot enough.  Just a thought.
