Time from draw until release
« on: June 24, 2015, 04:03:33 PM »
Just curious, when you guys are practicing about how long does it take from the time you draw until release?  I haven't actually measured myself but lately I feel like I'm getting sloooow.  For example, it takes a second to get my target in the site window, a second to make sure my bow is plumb, another second or two to settle the pin where I want it...

I dunno...  If  you guys are trying to shoot for accuracy over speed how long do you take typically?

I'd say that is about right. For practice I'll sometimes hold.....get on target....hold and let me eye relax and then get back in focus, aim, fire.

Here is an older vid when I first got my bow and was playing with the GoPro and seeing what things looked like while filming.

Often when shooting in practice it seems like it takes forever to level the bow and settle the pin.

In the field I always feel like I can do no wrong and it takes .5 seconds to get a good shot off.  Yes, yes I know delusions of grandeur  :chuckle:  especially when I liver shoot a bull at a few feet  :yike:

I'd say after I get the anchor point set it takes me about 3 seconds to squeeze the trigger.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

And yeah, that's why I asked about practicing and not real life or death scenarios!  When it's for real I become one with the bow, time slows down and I don't even realize I have shot until I see the arrow flying over the back of whatever creature it is I am after!

When I'm on a 3-D course I shoot like a snail.  Seems I get take extra time to settle in relax and make a pure shot.  When I'm hunting I don't realize how long it takes me to shoot it just happens before I even know what's going on.

My I'd takes about one second ! It's off and running. Practice both and drawing early and holding .

IMO trying to time yourself and be as fast as possible can eventually lead to target panic. And that can be very hard to recover from. I think the best thing is to shoot a ton and worry about proper bow fit, form and release. It may seem slow now, but when everything is engrained into your subconscious and the moment of truth comes, it will all happen automatically and will be much quicker and accurate than trying to force the shot to happen quickly. :twocents:

Depends on if my finger is in front of or behind the trigger release :chuckle:

I still have a arrow up in a tree at elk camp from one of my first "lessons"

Good times
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

Probably like 10-15 seconds if I'm just shooting. I find if I hold to long I start over thinking everything. Thats just me though. If I have to hold while hunting I'm distracted by the deer to than really over thinking my form.

THIS!  this guys knows his stuff..... if you have to make a shot happen in 2 sec or less its not a shot worth taking imo....  when I was competing alot my shot sequence was 13-14 seconds.... every time.... im not much faster hunting and never have had a issue filling my tags.

Coach is slow compared to his kid though!   Grip and Rip It can send some arrows downrange fast!
