Neah Bay reports?

Has anyone been fishing out of Neah Bay recently? I will be there this weekend from Fri-Sun. We'll be in our own boat 2 days and a charter on Sun. I'm mostly just curious how far out we will need to go to get fish. We can do Swiftsure but anything farther is not likely to happen. I heard Jambo is nailing them but he's running way out to do it. Thanks for any info! Have a happy 4th!

 but my SIL called and said guys at work got a bunch of nookies over the weekend between 8-15lbs near Waada and Tattoosh

Thanks for the info MadMax! That sounds similar to a couple of other reports I found elsewhere. Seems like there's a chance at fish without having to run 30+ miles out.

I'm headed to Seiku Thursday and Friday and out of there before the fireworks
I figure if they are hitting them at Neah they will be at Seiku also
Neah, although fishing is better ,I cant stand the BS myself.

I hear ya on how crazy its gonna be out there! It's been a number of years since I have been out there on the 4th. I bringing ear plugs and muffs to get me through the night, I hope that works. Good luck in Sekiu!

Well 3 days at Neah Bay is done. Fishing was good but sporadic. There were some hot bites and plenty of grinding it out. Between 6 of us in our own boat and a charter we kept 22 kings, 4 coho, and 11 Pinks. We caught a few rockfish too but didn't spend much time on that. The weather was great but the seas were rough at times with the big tides. Fish were being caught all over, outside and inside. We did best inside of Tattoosh in deeper water, 200-250', with anywhere from 100-160' out on the DR's on the flood. We caught most of our kings on helmeted whole herring with no flasher about 20' out of the DR clip. The charter we fished with was Excel Fishing Charters on a boat called the Cabazon. The captain, Tom, is a good guy and he worked hard for us. IMO the fireworks were pretty tame for Neah Bay on the 4th, I didn't even get woken up once. Overall it was a great weekend on the water, fishing should just get better too! Good luck out there!

Seiku was OK
managed 4 clipped kings biggest was about 12lbs and threw the pinks back
lots of 20 inch shaker chinook
It was fun but looking forward to area 9 opener the 16th

I'm glad you had a great trip out there. I keep my boat moored in Neah Bay all year, 17' sea chaser blue canvas, and I hunted mulies with Tom last year he is a pretty good friend of mine. I do not know where you fished at but for me the straits have been inconsistent at best. In the ocean I have normally been getting my fish and being back in by 9-12 am I typically leave the dock around 4am. As always where the big fish are change daily.

Good luck, sounds like it may be worth another trip!

I'm glad you had a great trip out there. I keep my boat moored in Neah Bay all year, 17' sea chaser blue canvas, and I hunted mulies with Tom last year he is a pretty good friend of mine. I do not know where you fished at but for me the straits have been inconsistent at best. In the ocean I have normally been getting my fish and being back in by 9-12 am I typically leave the dock around 4am. As always where the big fish are change daily.

On Tom's boat we fished out in the ocean. Saturday he took several members of our group south towards La Push where fishing had been good, however things changed and the bigger kings moved on. They still got their fish but the size wasn't there. Sunday when I went on his boat we headed west to blue dot. We found fish at the little prairie and catching was consistent, biggest being about 15lbs. It ended up being a desert at blue dot and  we finished up back where we started. I enjoyed fishing with Tom. There were only 4 of us on the boat and it had a private boat feel to it. The ride was nice too! I dozed off a couple of times.
  We found that fishing in the Strait was inconsistent too. Friday we got our 4 person limit of kings in 2 hours between Tatoosh and Chibidahl Rocks. On Saturday we couldn't buy a king bite there. Pinks were easily caught about anywhere we fished. Skagway to Greenbank was pretty dead for us too. Our biggest was about 20lbs.

We fished Mushroom on Friday and took three fish there, one was approx 28 lbs.

Saturday we took one at Portage Head and one at Mushroom.

Returned to fish Mushroom on Sunday for a few hours but had nothing but punks and jack coho.
