Great Basin Stream redbands
« on: July 03, 2015, 09:15:05 PM »
I have always enjoyed mid size stream fishing above every other type! It's in my blood, family had a potato farm in the chehalis river basin near Montesano, I grew up doing this, it's a blast, hiking and brush busting for that one big trout that gets the blood boiling! My great uncle always told me about that giant yellow belly (resident cutthroat) hiding in the beaver ponds around the area.
So as I grew up I have travelled all over Oregon and Washington tracking down great stream trout fishing areas, one spot my step dad introduced me to in the early 80's was south central Oregon, great spot for brook and redband rainbows. The rainbows are a native species which do well in warm water, and after many years of drought have struggled in their historical areas, after many visits over the years, camping, bike riding, and fishing I caught my largest redband rainbow ever, in a small stream, using a spinner, it was an out of body experience! lol! I was never expecting a fish like this to be hiding in the headwaters of a small Deset stream like this! We enjoyed BBQ it over charcoal, I have always eaten what I catch....I my mind it's the best way to show appreciation for the resource.

I enjoy the same kind of fishing. I'd rather catch a 12" cutthroat using a live grasshopper out of a beaver pond, or creek than anything else.........now you got me in the mood to hit my secret spot. :chuckle:
