Scouting this weekend - Hoof Disease on the 25 Rd

Spotted an elk crossing the road with the classic head bobbing and tenderness, about 10 miles out of Eagle Cliff. Sad to see them there. I have a feeling this thing is spreading faster and taking more elk than they have any idea.

Last month in 328 just above Ellensburg I saw two cows, one with a bad limp.  They walked by at 30 yards and with the binocs it looked like hoof rot on the right front leg.  I was hoping it was an injury of some sort but it really looked like the pics from the WDFW website.  I will be hunting archery for cows, maybe I will get lucky and take that one out and see it up close to verify.

It is sad to hear about hoof rot anywhere, I was hoping this would stay contained to the west side. But animals are free and will wander where ever. I just hope I don't come across any suffering elk while hunting Peaches this year.

In my opinion... WDFW and big timber companies should be ashamed for allowing the poisoning of our forests for generations with out any thought as to the long term effects it would have on the animals that live there!  Or did they?

 My hope is it was an injury, living in Longview, pretty much the epicenter of hoof rot, I haven't seen it on a front hoof before.
 Does hoof rot affect the front hooves or do the elk that get infections up front just not make it as long? Deffinatly easeir to limp a back leg than a front.

I believe it can affect both front and hind hooves.

its passed through there digestive system so once they step in poop and get it in there bodys they cont. to poop and step it and that's why you see it mostly on there back legs, I have seen bulls in Winston with it in there fronts a few times. But you are right its spreading fast. I ve seen it in Winston ryderwood, lincon cr, and at the peak above packwood. I think the elk in our state are going to take a nose dive for the next ten yrs.

My bull had hoof rot on its back leg and that was in coweeman

Saw two very healthy lookin cows off the 25 the other day. Really hoping it hasn't made it's way there. I've heard reports of it being in the Souixon.
