I had that boat with a 15 hp four stroke Merc. Pound for pound you can do more with that than a guy would imagine. I set it up with a great sonar and a downrigger and ran crab, shrimp, salmon and trout for about 8 years until the family wouldn't fit in it anymore.
Sounds like a decent price. The way I look at those boats are:
1. Make sure the trailer is 100% solid. You will be driving all around for opportunities vs motoring to them in the boat. Good axle, good tires, decent hub/bearings and wheels. Galvanization is your friend. Make sure there is no wiggle on the wheels. Lights are good but can be fixed for $40.
2. Either the motor is 100% solid or you can repair/upgrade it.
3. The boat really doesn't matter, if it leaks you fix it or deal with it.
$1,000 is a good deal if the trailer and motor are decent, I sold mine for $1550. Perfect motor, good trailer, not so pretty boat.
