Full Moon and Bear Hunting
« on: July 22, 2015, 08:51:25 AM »
Well, the opener is just around the corner. I noticed that the moon will be full on July 31st. Does anyone have any science, experience, or thoughts how this might affect bear behavior next weekend?

No, I'm not insinuating that they will turn into werewolves or go crazy, but might the full moon change affect their eating and sleeping habits?

Personally I think any relationship that Black Bears have with the moon phase is coincidental.  I have seen them at many different times of day in many different places and they all seem to be on their each own unique crazy schedules.  Even when I thought it would be too hot out I have seen them.  It seems their only concern now is processing lots of food and water, not so much for rest.

Maybe the moon phase has greater affects on the bear hunter instead?

I agree. The bear is on his own schedule and he don't give a rip about the moon. Find good berries and all is good.

Thanks for the replies. Some fishermen note a difference in fish behavior during moon phases, but I wasn't sure if there might also be a correlation to animal (bear) activities.
