Great looking black bear in the gallery. 250 lbs is a respectful blackie. Alaskan blackie were never real big bears for some reason. I could never get a real good answer out of Fish and Game on this because were I grew up in Yooperland we had big black bears like the one in the photo with an occasional one running higher and those were usually taken in then same area each and every time.

The only problem with killing that bear is that there was a bigger one with it that I couldn't get a shot at..

We (3 of us) saw about a dozen bears last year, most on state land and a couple on timber land. We killed three. I got two with a rifle and my brother got one with a bow.

I am going after one with a bow this year.  Sounds like you guys also had a good year.  Out of 3 of us we ended up taken 5.  All rifle and all on stateland.

The bears mentioned above were in WA. I also went to Alaska last year and saw as many as 12 a day. Four of us went and they all got bears with rifles. I took a bow and did not connect.

The largest skull from WA last year was 18 5/16 P&Y and the big one from AK was 20 1/2 B&C. I didn't measure the two I got last year.

I am stoked to try to connect with a bow this year.  When i would go up to Alaska fishing we would see tons of bear.

Spring black bear on Prince of Wales Island, early to mid May, grazing sea grass along the beaches. That's a great bowhunt!
It's a great life if you don't weaken
