Puyallup Pinks

Crazy night on the Puyallup a few days ago.  A guy said he was going to stab another guy.  A person kept short casting and casting out of sequence after being told multiple times the process and he line was cut three different times.   

We were far enough away to watch but it was all interesting evening besides catching pinks.

Tuesday I got to see 2 guys fall in the river, and got to hear an across the river expletive shouting match that went on for like 15 minutes. Some of those guys need to seriously mellow out. Maybe they consider "confrontational fishing" fun?

Anyway, caught a few fish, kept a limit of bright bucks. Picked up 2 big bags of trash. I think most of it was from some homeless kids that seem to be living near the river.

Interesting evolution this river has seen since I started fishing it in the 70s- for steelhead.

Combat fishing for Pinks...not happening !

That would ruin fishing for the day, I go fishing to get away from the crowds.

Ok newb question here. Just trying to understand the  limits in the regs..... says daily limit is 6, up to 2 adults plus two additional pink may be retained. If I'm understanding this correctly, this is 4 fish total? Sorry just started fishing for salmon and only looked at regs and limits for regular game fish that made more sense to me.

4 if all pinks.  6 for total salmon.  So you could catch 2 jack king/silver, 2 adult king/silver and 2 additional pinks.  Or 6 jack kings/silvers.

Ohhh ok. I totally spaced the possibility of Jacks and was confused about why it said the limit was 6 but only 2 kings and 2 pinks

I don't jump in to the combat scenes. Just can't do it. Spot I was fishing with 1 other guy was across and up river from the mob, but close enough to see/hear what was going on.

Hate the combat, I grab the waders and get to a spot where I have at least 40 yds between me and the next guy. Too many fish and too easy to catch to smell the next guys aftershave.

Todays update, Was out there at 330am.
Started fishing about 530, watched three kings landed by 730 near the old cannery, Two nice ones 15-20lb range easy, one jack. The puyallup not the stuck/white.
One fish on for a buddy of mine by approx 9 (We were in a horrible spot) haven't fished there in years so wasn't sure where the good spots were.
Moved to another spot and started fishing about 1030. Hooked into about 10, landed one and got about 5 others to shore and kicked off.
The beauty of actually using barbeless hooks - Seen lots of other guys using barbs, and a few snagged fish kept and logged - Bugs the heck out of me but I'm not going to create a fuss about it.  Just wish there would be more honest fishermen out there, if that's what you want to call them.
My neighbor who I took out salmon fishing for his first time got a taste of the chaos at the rivers and was in for it, Managed to take 3 home and I took my 1.
All in all was a good trip, Its all about the spot your at.

The mobs aren't bad, Just gotta get in - ignore stupid people, keep all your fish, and get out.
Ill take 4 small fish over leaving with 2 large ones. I like to eat more than brag.

I have fished it 5 times so far. Once at the 96th bridge in Alderton, skunked. Once at the 162 bridge just south of Sumner, skunked. First time at the secret Serta Hole, 4 fish, then 2 last night and 4 this am. My quickest trip was 1 hr 15 minutes for my four fish. Been using about a pink corky or Steelybead and have been slamming pinks. No kings or silvers hooked for me. I have seen a few caught but I'm not out first thing or back after dark. I fish for my first 4 legal fish and head in. I've bonked 3 females and the rest were all bucks. I try to get near the same group of guys who stay in line and don't short cast or short line and it's ok. Saturday and Sunday have been the busiest. Mid morning today from 10-12 was when I fished and caught them. They're coming in waves.... literally no fish for anyone then bam 20 hookups all up and down the battle line...
