Killing the kings at buoy 10 from the kayaks
« on: August 26, 2015, 04:58:24 PM »
We were down there for a few days in good weather. One guy was only there for a day. Anyway we had a damn good time and released many wild fish as well as others we didn't want so they could grow up. What a stellar year this has been all around. A few coho were thrown in the cooler too.

Hey I know that guy.....

What type boats are you guys using? My kid has recently displayed an interest in the kayaks.
Thought I might do a little exploring into it.

I use just a sea kayak which is considered quite unorthodox for kayak fishing. Mine is 18 feet long and 24" wide but this boat will maneuver (if the captain has the skills) in almost any water condition quite well (effective in the river up to class 3, big seas and any lake of course). I wouldn't recommend starting there unless you're a die hard. Anyway a good kayak to start with is something like an Ocean Kayak Trident 13 which is about 29-30 inches wide and 12 feet long. They're pretty good boats. Kids are going to potentially need a boat that fits them first and foremost. The narrower the boat, the easier to paddle. The longer the boats typically glide for a long time making them more efficient. Anyway Hobie has a huge following but their products are quite expensive. The best thing to do is go down and rent some kayaks and paddle around. Try before you buy for sure.

Have you had issues with seal or sea lions trying to take your fish from the stringer?

Harbor seals are pussies. The sea lions will take your fish if they can. Keep it out of the sight I say. I have never had one bother me on the boat but they've been curious many times following or looking while we play fish. They were definitely around and I saw them stealing fish on Monday from some folks out there on their motor boats. Fortunately I have not had any problems and I am always trying to be aware of my surroundings and creatures looking to steal my fish. I bet a .45 in my Pelican box would be the ticket for those stinky *censored*s but that'd get me in jail.

Wow do you fish the Rip in those things? Or just stay closer to the bridge? I love sea kayaks but never fished from one.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Fished 9 days up till last Friday. Saw a bunch of you guys launching at the shipwreck. It was fun watching you guys fight and net those fish in the washing machine water.
Great job!
