Loosing sleep.
« on: January 15, 2009, 12:41:55 AM »
Well I did it, I called in a bobcat.

My wife stayed home sick from work today but was feeling well enough by this afternoon to watch the kiddo, so she suggested that I should go hunting.  (Yeah she rocks)!  I only had a few hours until dark so I headed to where I shot my first coyote a week and half ago.  I kinda wanted to see if there was anything left of the coyote since I dumped her in the blackberries.  I hike in about a mile and it was still there, untouched.   :dunno: To cold I guess.  Well I didnt have much time left so I decided to do a stand there, it worked before so why not.  I have been trying to stick with just animal distress sounds and not using coyote vocals just in case there was some cats around.  I started with kitten distress for about 5 minutes.  Nothing but birds.   :dunno: Then went to a call sequence I put together that starts off with rodent, then woodpecker, then cottontail, then repeat.  Well it went through the first cycle and I decided to up the volume.  I looked down at my mp3 player (my cell phone) and was having a hard time pushing the buttons with my gloves on.  I got the volume up after about 20 seconds and raised my head and looked back towards the decoy....there was a bobcat batting at it!!!!  A big, dark gray bobcat playing with the Mojo Critter like a house cat.  The speaker blasting right next to it!   I about jumped out of my skin.  Then like an idiot I move my hand towards my gun too fast and the cat busted me.  He stared at me and I didnt know what to do.  I could see he was going to bolt so I raised the gun and fired at the same time he started running.

miss

The cat made it to the brush and my heart sank.  My first called bobcat and I missed.  A clean miss (believe me I checked).  I feel sick to my stomach and now I cant sleep.  Im sure I will get over it but this really  sucks.

Anyways thought I would share.

The wife said if I go hunting 1 more time, she's going 2 leave me!!  Gosh I'm gonna miss her.

Do bobcats get educated like a coyote?  How long should I wait to go back?
