Years ago when I was younger, I stayed on the hill three weeks before and during elk hunting.  I did not even want to go to town for more water.  My wife did not understand.

Three weeks later back to work with a suit and tie.  I think that I could have stayed longer.

Two weeks in back country is awesome! Would be better if I could talk the wife into joining.  ( gets cold higher elevations at night )
Old enough to know better.
Young enough to go for it.

21 years ago I was talking to the folks I work for about accepting a salaried postion.
I told them I needed to talk to my wife. We crunched the numbers and I decided to sign on.
I went back to them and said I would take the job providing I could take time off for hunting when I wanted.

They said sure. 4 months into starting the job I left for 10 days hunting. I have never missed a hunting season since.
When elk and deer were back to back seasons I was out for 21 days.

This year I turkey hunted a week, and will leave on the 30 th for muzzy elk ,come back on the 12 th. Leave again on 16 th Oct . Till 27 th.

All of it tent camping. This year breaking in my new canvas wall tent.

I tell folks all the time that the best sleep I get all year is on a mountain is in a tent.
My wife joined me last year for four days during deer. She doesn't hunt but had a ball holding down camp and relaxed.
Can't wait.

I hear all of you.  Some just don't understand.  Leaving tomorrow and do not plan on coming back until after the season.   My neighbors are always aghast that when i tell them I will be the woods for the next few weeks.

Once season is over I need to start working on getting rid of the other 250 hours of vacation time..........
Go Hunting!

Good times in camp and the mountains are my reset button for all the stress and grind of my daily life.  9 days with the guys, hunting, laughing and making memories that I will never forget keep my young and looking forward to the next go-round.  We got a bull tag in camp means it is fun for everyone.  Love to cook and keep that table time after dark light and well fed so we can go all day doing what we love.

There is not a place I'd rather be than the elk woods, the more remote the better, in September. Many don't understand it but accept it with a mild curiosity.

I used to do the 2-4 weeks of elk hunting down in OR, but I was single then.  Tougher to do with a family   :(  and a lot more bills than I used to have.  Three or four days is it for elk this year, but beats no days last year.

I get asked the same thing.  I tell them I couldn't run as fast as the deer/elk so I killed it.

And when they ask me where I'm going on vacation I tell them I'm going hunting because after working with them for the past year I have to go murder SOMETHING. :chuckle:
