Tikka T3 Lite - 300 Win Mag - Ammo Suggestions
« on: September 25, 2015, 01:23:37 PM »
I am wondering if someone could help me out with ammo selection for my Tikka T3 in a 300 win mag. I used to shoot the Winchester Supreme Elite XP3 round in 180grain. I loved the round as it grouped about 1" at 200 yards. Very Accurate round for the Tikka.

Anyways, you cannot get that anymore and I need to find a new round as I am down to my last box. I've heard the Barnes TSX is a good round. However, that was from someone that isn't shooting a Tikka. I'd like to stay at 180 grain and I am hoping some other people shoot the same gun and can help me with some guidance on ammo.

Oh, and no, I have not gotten into reloading yet. I will at some point for sure.

I've got a Tikka T3 in the 300 WSM and shoot HSM Sierra Berger VLD's in the 168 gr. I've taken a bunch of elk, deer, and bear with it. Groups well and is deadly. They also come in 185 gr. I've ordered through their website and also bought at Cabela's and both are very reasonable; especially compared to the XP3's which I used to shoot for years until I switched over.

www.shootersproshop.com   It's Noslers store with overrun deals and great ammo deals too. Less money than the stores and shipping isn't horrible either.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Hornady 165 GR gmx  and the Bergers shoot very well. Want to try the heavier Bergers thisvyear. Have to load some up

Elk, deer, moose Hornady did well on all of them

I guess the first question would be what kind of game are you going to use them on and at what range.  A Berger VLD is a pretty soft bullet so I wouldn't want to use it on an elk size animal close up.  If your looking for an all around load maybe a Nosler Partition, Barnes TTSX or the like. Rifle brand doesn't really matter unless the twist is different from others.  I assume Tikka's are a 1 in 10?

My tikka loves 180gr partitions going just a hair above 2900fps. I use reloaded 22.  Good luck

I have that rifle in stainless.  I've been shooting 180 grain Federal Premium Trophy Copper with good results.
