Lizard vs preying mantis
« on: October 03, 2015, 09:59:44 PM »
Only thing worth sharing during my elk hunt today  :chuckle: sitting on a hillside overlooking a clear cut and I heard a hissing noise behind me. Thought my dad who was a hundred yds away was blowing his nose til I noticed what turned out to be a preying mantis all puffed up. Later I heard it again and caught this lizard trying to get it.

Praying mantises are awesome.  Dont see too many of them though.  Week or so ago when i went hiking up in a bad scorched earth area to check a cam i found one of those alligator lizards.  Seemed pretty weird finding him up on a burnt husk of a mountain, but there he was, healthy as can be.

Late summer I will see thousands of them every day.  They congregate on the siding of my shop in the mornings.  For about a month I will have thousands of June Bugs every day and then after they are gone, the mantis shows up  :dunno:
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

I had a praying mantis land on me in elk season.  Tried shooing him off, he got on my bow.  Those suckers have an iron grip.
