My first elk
« on: October 07, 2015, 09:37:43 PM »
My first time muzzleloader hunting and I managed to harvest my first elk! Had my son with me and he got to experience the whole thing. He helped skin, pack meat bags, and pack out the gear. It was definitely a learning experience breaking down a large animal like that while it's on the ground.

Unfortunately,  there's not much of a story. Just right place at the right time.  We got a late start that morning and while driving to where we were going to hunt, I spotted it from the road. My son and I snuck up to about 50 yrds from him. I double lunged him and he ran into a swamp. Luckily, he died in a part of the swamp where there wasn't knee deep mud or standing water.
