Looking for Advise
« on: October 10, 2015, 07:45:31 PM »
Hello there everyone! So I have come to the point that I need to decide where I am going to trap.  Where I am looking for advice is that I live right on the Washington and Idaho border.  So trapping in either state is easy for me to do.  What I have been finding while scouting is that there is few bodies of water for me to do any water trapping.  So that has me leaning more towards land trapping.  So I can either cage trap in Washington or use more tradition traps in Idaho.  What I'm Looking for is advise on what you all would do if you had this opportunity.

Also I am wondering what the laws for Washington for road trapping i.e. culverts, bridges ditches.  I haven't really been able to find anything for Washington (I could just be looking in the wrong place).

Any information you have, advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

With out doubt I would be running a coyote line in Idaho! I think I have a pretty good understanding of the "right-of-way" laws in Washington but it is best for you not to take my understanding of it as gospel and end up with a ticket. Stick to Idaho, learn to be a pro at flat, blind and dirt hole sets and stack up some coyotes.

Right now everyone wants to trap coyotes so ID seems like a no brainer but I'd just throw this out there. Why not keep your options open and be open to trapping both.
Not sure where you live but if there are cats on the WA side you could maybe run a cat line in WA and get away from competition. ID for coyotes.

I have been thinking about running two lines.  I personally have not seen any cats in my immediate area but think I know where there are some that I have heard about from some ranch hands.  As far as where I trap just Google Palouse Winter and that's what I got to work with except there are very few fence rows but do have plow burms (pretty much looks like Mars in the winter). Main thing I have to fight is the time it takes to drive somewhere to get to (that's why I was asking about road trapping).  How far do you guys travel to get to the places that you trap?
