Meat in the freezer
« on: October 18, 2015, 08:39:14 AM »
Thanks to Seth30 I was able to put down a little meat buck 45 minutes into the season.  I lost access to my favorite blacktail spot on Monday and Seth was able to hook me up with a new spot on Thursday. Saturday morning we, along with his son Joseph, got into their ground blind and waited for day light. Joseph was tired so he announced that he was going back to sleep. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that his little snores may have helped calll in this little guy in. Joseph was awake when the deer came in but I still give him credit for drawing the bucks interest. Seth spotted him coming down the hill toward us and Joseph and I were on high alert waiting for our shot. Finally the buck was in front of us but his vitals were behind a tree. After an eternity, 20 seconds or so, he stepped out and I pulled the trigger double lunging him. The buck did the bronco Billy high jump leg kick and bolted of into the brush. I heard him go down and thrash in the brush. We went to where he was shot and saw blood everywhere. It was an easy track job with a steady blood trail for about 20 yards to the dead buck. High 5's and pics were in order then gutting and hauling to the truck. This will go down very high on my list of awesome hunts because we had Joseph along to  be a part of it all. It was a great day with good friends and priceless memories.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

A little smaller than last year's buck but he'll eat well.

Ripper,

it was my pleasure to take you out.  Thank you for asking, as I was happy to get the opportunity for my son to see modern deer hunting.  He has only been on archery hunts.  He is quite the little hunter and knows how to stay still and be silent.  Wish all of my hunting buddies could do that :chuckle:  Another great memory made with a good friend and my son   Yesterday we were at wal mart and he asked the lady at the counter, "do you remember yesterday when Mark shot the deer?" :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

The poptart eating sound worked for elk in September :chuckle:  I believe it was the smores flavor.
