I was just creeping along really slow came over the hill and spotted him a ways off. I stalked my way 100 yards closer and decided to turn the truck off and coast a ways so he wouldn't hear me sneaking up on him. .... had to turn the truck sideways in the road so I could shoot out the window...

Congrats on a great buck. Thanks for sharing.

On a more serious note. My wife and I have been hunting a ridge, sitting a lot where 2 draws come together and a big draw falls off the back. Hiking further up the ridge we have jumped deer bedded so it seemed like a good spot to setup. Country is open timber so you have max openings up to 200 yards.

The 3rd time we setup there we separated about 70 yards so we could watch more openings.  At 5:30 a buck was suddenly 50 yds below  me in the draw and headed downhill. No clear shot. I hustled to my wife and slipped down through the trees with her trying to catch up to the buck. The wind was perfect right in our face. 120 yards downhill we were brought to a halt by a nice set of horns. The buck was coming right at us 30 yards!!!!! I was shaking,  my wife lifted her gun slowly but we were to close the buck saw the motion and stopped behind a tree just his head was visible.  No shot. The buck held for a minute and then took off ...he crossed the draw and was headed for freedom and thick timber. I didn't have alot of time to think anything through.  I didnt want the buck to get away and as he crossed a small opening 150 yards away. I led him and fired in the quickest freestanding shot I have ever taken. There was no visible change in the bucks stride he continued across the draw and out of site.

I figured I had missed. But checking the bucks trail we found a good spot of blood immediately.  I let my wife lead and she tracked the blood 200 yards later there he was.

I somehow managed to drill him 1inch behind his right shoulder and it blew through one lung and exited 3 inches in front of his opposite shoulder. It was a pretty spectacular lucky shot if I do say so myself.
