Anybody bagging birds
« on: October 26, 2015, 11:39:55 AM »
It seems a little quiet on the waterfowl section. I have only been able to go out for a quick hunt before work got one hen mallard  now that deer is done I will be getting after ducks a couple times a week.

Limited on geese opening weekend. But nothing last. Hopefully we get lots of rain this week. My property is totally dry. My ponds have barely started to form

I've really wanted to get out for ducks but with the nice mild weather I haven't bothered yet.  There's been some geese around though.  Looks like we'll finally get a bit of weather later this week.

Did really good opening day got 9 and a speckle belly. Would have limited out by 10 if not for the nice dudes that were 100 yards away from me cranking on their calls trying to steal the birds circling my dekes... Didn't work for him but he tried and was really quite annoying. Was so close to yelling at them but I was shooting birds so I wasn't ticked off too much.

Opening day and last weekend were pretty good for us. Not too much longer until we get that big push of new birds.

Haven't started yet, to the early morning scorn of the dog....  :chuckle: Lots of Scoters around and I saw three Harlequins yesterday.  They let me boat up well within gun range.  Even though I wasn't hunting, I probably would have let them swim as they were pretty drably colored.

Maybe he read your earlier post about your spot...

"The best part is once my spot has ducks in it they stay there year round. Got up to about 2,000 last year. I even picked out a spot to put the blind on the X you could say. I'm going g to use 3 1/2 dozen ducks and 6 geese. Getting up at 3:30 the morning of."

No I've seen them there before. They were just a couple of unethical hunters that I've cleaned up there garbage and shells before. They would have to know the spot in the first place also...

Just a grunt for a guide who lets you hunt with them to pay for services rendered.   :stirthepot: :chuckle:  Good luck this season.  Not much for migrating ducks currently.  Lots of geese and surprisingly a ton of cacklers in the area.  More than I have ever seen.  One pile of snow geese in the area.  A few more wind storms and we will really clean up on them.

Got a few opening day.  Had a nice roasted mallard last night for the first time.  Tide sucked last weekend and we had some fisherman as competition so only got a couple shots in a limited window.  Looking forward to knocking a few more down that is for sure.

Nice, never shot one of them.  Did you get them locally?

Still thousands of Scoters around here.  Finally got my authorization cards and Fed Stamp today.

Clouds of teal showed up yesterday.  It seems like the migration is later than usual.
