AR 15 scope for predators, recomendations?
« on: January 19, 2009, 12:25:10 PM »
Hey AR 15 yote hunters,

I will be putting a scope on my AR 15 shortly for this very reason. I wanted to know peoples thoughts on what they have and what they suggest for hunting yotes, bobs, etc. Keep in mind, MOST of my hunting will be in Western Wa and most of my shots will be 200 yards or less more than likely.

Thoughts?

Thanks. :hello:

I guess I should have put this under the "Optics" forum, sorry.

3-9 power scope is great for predator hunting, but a higher power would be nice if you ever want to go shoot some varmints. :twocents:

I like the Burris 4.5x14 FF2, Doesn't cost a arm and a leg and the optics seem bright. My shots are usally 50 yrds out to 400yrds. I usally keep mine around 6 power but crank it down in tight quarters. You can paint an AR also without issues.

i put a nikon 3x9x40 buckmaster on mine, lifetime warranty, super clear glass, doesn't fog  and the yardage offsets seem to be perfect for the .223. paid 230 for it i think, for the money its better than what burris and leopould offer even in the 300 to 350 dollar range, i love my burris scope but i paid a little over 1000 for that

Having the potential for high powers for a hop over to the east side is a nice bonus!

I love being able to go to 2 over here though. Almost require it.

I have a 2-10 Nikon Monarch on the gun I bought from Rick. I think that's the ultimate combo.

I use 2-7's regularly too. I think they're just right, but I'd lose a little confidence doing a 300yd shot on the dry side.

I have a very similar setup as Big10, although if you can afford it you cant go wrong with Nikon.
