I think the reason behind a shell limit is to reduce skybusting.  If you are limited on the amount of shells, you are likely to wait for the birds to be a little closer before you start blasting away. :twocents:

Plus, you possibly free up the space for another group of guys as opposed to sitting there all day shooting a case and not getting your birds.

The shell limit is nice in theory, but there's not enough enforcement out there to really make it work.

I see a few comments about enforcement and truth be told there really isn't enough man power to really enforce any of the game laws. It's highly held upon the honor system, and as arbitrary as this rule may seem your honor hangs in the balance. I don't know about you all but man's word and a hand shake still mean something to me.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

Enforcement of this issue is kind of a joke.

I have had several issues with enforcement on this.

I have no problem complying with a shell limit, even if I know the chance of getting caught is near zero.  Same thing with the nontoxic laws, same thing with courteous trolling for salmon.

If I can't get it done in 15 or 25 shots, I'll let someone else step in and give it a shot.

I was checked at nisqually last year. Gamies were super sneaky too. Pulled up on the other side of a flat and walked the mud line then popped up like 30 yards away. Full check. Plug, shells, license, registration and had been counting my shots too see how many empties I picked up. They had to be watching me for more than an hour. But everything was in order. They seemed kinda upset they couldn't tag me on anything. Then I got them check when I got back to the launch from a chick Gamie.

More rules and regulations heck let's make it 7 shells and while your at it lets get ride on lead in rifle bullets like California. Actually who really needs 7 ducks lets just make the limit 5 it's a slippery slope

I see where you are coming from, but you either have regulations that limit harvest or no opportunity to hunt.  Some regulations make sense and some are from the left trying to ban hunting.  Nontoxic waterfowl shot makes 100% sense but lead rifle bullet banning makes zero sense.

If you really saw were I was coming from you'd understand it is a hard line no more restrictive rules and regulations. The liberals take a little bit every year by a new rule or regulation it starts to add up fast. The fact that hunters can't band together makes me sick it's like death by 1000 small cuts.

Do people really bring more than a box of shells anyway?  :dunno:

I've never felt the need to bring that much ammo.
A box is plenty, unless it's heavyshot, thats like 10 to a box is't it?  To expensive for me, I don't shoot the stuff.
Hunting from the boat 25 rds is what I take as a box is easy to grab, plus a handfull of goose loads.
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.
