Doing some practicing looking for suggestions
« on: January 19, 2009, 08:56:24 PM »

i would like to get some feed back on a couple pictures. Pope's posts have got me playing around with pictures and developing them. Theses pictures where not taken in RAW so its my basic photo editing program but thought it's a place to start practicing. I'm wondering what you see as areas to adjust in these pictures I keep going back and forth with adjustments. and I'm sure alot deals with the camera and original picture, It's a FZ18, is it noise in the picture? what happens when you crop a picture does it get distorted? All comments welcome, not trying to be a pro just playing. Thanks Dale

There is a tiny bit on noise you can see in the darker areas, but this one is really needing a little post process work.  Without shooting raw, I'm not sure if you can get it all the way perfect but the two issues I see is that the snow is all blown out with no detail.  Also, the mid tones or brown in the horse is too dark and the detail is a tad lacking.  If they were shot in raw you could definitely fix them all the way.  I'm not sure if your camera shoots in raw though...

You should not get distortion from cropping.  Everything else looks good for a P&S.

It looks as though the contrast and saturation have been bumped way up.

Thanks for the comments, it helps to get others input, I can shot in RAW and plan on it from now on. The contrast and saturation are bumped way up.
