Tyvek Tarp
« on: November 05, 2015, 04:18:44 PM »
During modern deer my dad brother in law and myself planned a pack in wilderness trip. We wanted to cut weight so we shared a 2 man tent ( it was tight but being in the middle I was sleeping on 3 mattresses and warm). We decided we needed a tarp and after trying to clear a purchase with the wife I settled on a 9'x9' tyvek tarp with strapping tape as loops. It held together very well in mild weather but I havent tried it in rain or snow yet...

I have one hole to fix because Dad decided to take trekking poles with him opening day and held up the tarp with a stick.

It gave us lots of room to store gear and cook.

Its been done before but it may perk some peoples interest.

Weighs in about 1.2 lbs.

Great idea to reduce weight. Lots of stuff on you tube about making other camping items out of Tyvek. I hear the key is to wash it first (NOT DRY IT IN A DRYER) will help reduce the noise factor. Stay warm.

I'll have to look into that. I just crumbled it a bunch before the trip. It was still noisy but not to bad.
