Anyone see last week's Western Extreme?
« on: November 12, 2015, 08:21:30 AM »
Jim was hunting with Shane Barbour and got a nice bull. He was very complimentary about the service he got. Although I'm not a big fan of the "see how far you can kill with a bow" crowd, the man is definitely a great shot. He also did a piece where he shot a light bulb at 100 yards to see if he could beat a dragster. Did anyone else see this show? What did you think? I don't want this to turn into a slam session about a guide. Just comment on him with relationship to Jim Burnworth and that show please.

Jim and Eva and all the rest will go to Shane because it is known that he secures and hunts private land over bait so the successrate is likely higher than the norm.  These are far from realistic hunts that the show portrays.  Are you sure that is not a repeat of the show from a year or two ago?

I have Extreme on DVR but have not watched any yet this year, I always like Jim's enthusiasm for bow hunting.  I just lost interest once I found out some of these details.  Took the magic and interest out of it.  Some other hunting shows are open and honest about going to a "ranch" or outfitters property, they show the feeders, set-up blinds etc.  No problem there, you know what the deal is.   Film it like you are out on the wild tracking and hunting them when you are actually on closed land and over bait.  :nono:  That and some of the episodes got really thick on the bowtech sales push, I own a bowtech and love it, but don't need product pushed at me during the show itself.  We get enough of that in the comercials that air every5min of actual show time...  commercial, 2 min of backtrack covering what was already shown, 3 min of new material, commercial, rinse repeat..

I get the whole pushing a product thing.  These guys need to make money too and that's how they get it.

As far as the pushing products thing I totally get it too. I do like some new approaches I've seen and heard lately though like on a couple podcasts I listen to, where instead of just preaching a product like you've got to have it to be a successful hunter, they simply say ok now we've got to say a few things for our sponsors so we can keep producing this show. Just different, but I like it.

Burnworth seems like a good guy, and a heck of a shot. Although I lose a little respect for guys like that when you hear and see the way they are hunting, it still goes back to they are trying to make a living at this, and have got to produce  succesful hunts to do it

Isn't it something like 13 minutes of footage for a 30 minute episode? the rest is product pimping?
Just tend your own and live.

It could've been a repeat. I was watching it over at my buddy Bruce's house.

Must've been last season.  Jim got one of the smaller bulls, he took the Top Fuel drag racer Steve Torrence who got a monster 381" bull, Jims wife got a beauty during muzzle loader season and I believe his brother got one too
Jim went back this year and got one pretty close to the bull Steve Torrence got last season.

I like his show and hear that the Burnworths are good folk.  I understand the need to get the footage to make a show and keep your sponsors.  I'm glad I don't see the bait or stands, as I like the premise of the show.  It's fine to lie to me and call me hot :chuckle:  Seriously though, one of the better shows out there.

So is he claiming it is a trophy Roosevelt?
