Any 3 gunners?
« on: November 16, 2015, 05:45:00 PM »
I am looking at giving this shooting sport a try, but I have some questions about equipment.  Mostly belt questions.

Between the Safariland els system and the bladetech system. Which is more user friendly, to use and on the pocketbook. Trying to keep all the
different components straight in my head is giving me a headache.

The ELS is liked by those who use it, especially for 3-gun and people who always want to "tinker" with their stuff throughout the match.  But, like you mentioned, it is expensive.  I would suggest you buy as little as possible right now until you learn the game a bit and find out what works for you.  Every action shooter ends up with a box of what was the latest and greatest gimmick holster, mag pouch, etc.  My self, I use a CR Speed Belt.  Shooters Connection is a great place to look for what you might need/want and they know the sport.

I would also suggest looking into USPSA in your area.  You will learn a lot from shooting USPSA, safety, stage breakdown, running with a gun, etc.  There aren't a whole lot of 3 gun matches around and depending on where you live you could shoot a USPSA match every week in the nicer months.  Shotgun takes a lot of work to master but a good pistol shooter will make up a lot of room in a 3 gun match with their skills.

Rumors are a-flying.

I don't know what other pistol clubs do but mine will have side matches after our steel challenge match or USPSA matches using ARs or shotguns. I thought about getting into 3 gun also but am easing into it. This year I have been shooting the steel challenge matches and next year I plan on shooting USPSA now that I'm getting more comfortable.

If you have a pistol club in your area that runs steel challenge or USPSA, just go and watch. I went and watched a couple of matches before I actually participated and learned a lot about technique and equipment. Most people at the range are more than eager to help out and get you started right away. I've learned a ton since hanging out with these guys the past year.

I have been shooting local steel challenge matches for about a year now. Been shooting on the cheap, just time to step up in equipment. Starting with the belt, is my intention, one that will cross over with the different shooting sports. Just didn't want.to spend a small fortune on all the equipment, but that may not be avoidable, as I'm learning. Thanks for the.input

The belt is going to be one of the cheaper things that you will buy!

Yes, but I already owned all the arms. I guess my next question is? Is the Bladetech system the only one that is Interchangeable between belts? Unlike ELS that is strictly for Safariland ELS belt? Sorry for all the stupid questions.
