Koss Outdoor Hunting/Tactical Clothing - Anyone used it?
« on: December 10, 2015, 11:10:06 AM »
Has anyone tried the Hunting line of Koss Outdoor soft shell jacket and pants? Substantially cheaper than most in this category and appears to be of like materials.  :dunno:

Send rosscrazyelk a pm on here. He bought some. I'm waiting on a review from him.

Right on. The prices have me way interested and right now it appears you can get a jacket/pant combo for half price dang near.

I bought the pants and tried them on and walked around the house with them.  They are built well but I had an issue with the swooshing when you walked. .. other than that great price.
If anyone knows how to get rid of the swooshing sound feel free to share.
If its brown knock it down

I'm also curious to hear about Koss... would like to make the switch to soft shell  raingear but am a little skeptical because I've never used it.

From my experience the swooshing goes away with soft shell material after its broken in. I like the look of there stuff and for the price cant go wrong giving it a try for a season.

The softshell stuff I have I would not consider rain gear. It is water repellent but far from water proof in anything above an intermittent drizzle. Personally, I'd shy away from anything but a lightweight "actual" rain coat. Anything softshell would also be too warm a lot of the time.
I've heard that Gore Windstopper is mostly the same as Gore-Tex without sealed/taped seams. I can't verify that. I do have a Sitka Jetstream Lite jacket that is windstopper and it is more water resistant than other shells, but still not water proof. Also not at all breathable.
Just some(sidetracked) hopefully useable info re: softshells and rain gear.

Thanks for the tip.  Did a little more reading on soft shells, etc. Seems like all of the science and conventional wisdom agrees with you--unless you pay top dollar the soft shells probably aren't going to cut it on the west side.

Snapped out of my temporary moment of insanity and went with a good old fashioned gore-tex shell (made by beretta) which was on sale for about 200 shipped.
