End of year fishing numbers
« on: December 15, 2015, 08:30:33 AM »
WALLEYE   1668
BURBOUT  8
Crappie   45
Perch         264
Bass           204
Trout         33
Others       2
Total          2224

For the last couple of years I have been tracking the fish that come into my boat, These are caught not cleaned numbers so dinks included.  I Had a bad back this year so was somewhat limited, and I usually do way better on crappies.  Biggest lessons looking back on my notes for the year, don't leave biting fish to find better biting fish and trolling catches walleyes ( I still hate it but it does work)

The others were 2 Pike caught out of Roosevelt, and I usually do at least one kokanee trip a year and never made happen this year.

I'm just impressed that you caught 8 burbot.

It depends on the fish you are leaving. if im catching a bunch of dink walleye (Under 16") I don't have a problem looking for bigger fish. I would rather catch a half dozen over 20s than a hundred 16 n unders.

I used to catch over a 100 burbout per year fishing the Spokane arm in Dec and Jan in the deep holes way up river on Roosevelt but I spent my winter at Potholes this year.  I target big fish at certain times of year but will take a day of 50+ 15-17" fish over a few big fish any day.  I throw back anything over 20" now out of Roosevelt because of the heavy metals and the limit being 16 fish.  Don't want to risk keeping a good breeding hen, and I eat walleye 1 to 3 times a week so I am way above the consumption advisory.  My opinion but the younger fish I believe to be less risk.  Grew eating fish out of lake Erie, figure I should be careful.

 yeah I tend to agree on eating younger fish.

Also to clarify, what I meant by my  " " is that I don't like seeing pike in the Roosevelt system.  How big of pike have you caught/seen?

Very impressive numbers! I noticed an abundance of oversize walleye on Potholes this year , which was nice cause I did not get an oversize that I can recall on Moses Lake. Thanks to help from folks here, I had good success up at Banks as well. Salmon was great up until the sockeye closure, then king fishing was fair. Was a very fun fishing year. Jumbo perch should start really turning on soon.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!
