You may also want to check out the marine forecasts, you can pull them up on VHF and I have a cheap app on my phone that pulls the tides, weather and forecast.  They are usually pretty accurate and have kept me off the water when conditions in the morning looked good.

Seems he has a few stories.  Never the less a lack of experience or knowledge of conditions played a big part in this incident.

Not sure what the real true story is hear but I hope a serious lesson was learned by everyone involved and maybe even a few readers.
One big thing: WEAR your life jacket. It doesn't do anyone any good if you're not wearing it.
That's all I'll say on this thread.
I AM very glad no one was injured.
