Anyone been in YTC lately?
« on: December 28, 2015, 12:48:08 PM »
I'm heading over this week for another adventure in the YTC to fill a cow tag.  Anyone been in there lately or seen the log books?  Just curious what's been open as of late and if any elk has been spotted roaming Alkali.    Any info would be appreciated.

Lots of snow so bring chains and stick to the main lines.

I have good reason to believe there may be elk on the northern end of the unit!

Could it be the giant flashing signs on rye grass that say watch for elk :chuckle:

That, and they were standing on the shoulder and the bluff to the South.  :chuckle:    A few were on the fog line in the median too when I came through early Sunday morning in the dark. They didn't even react as I drove past.

There are elk where there usually isn't any.   This weather has really moved them.  I suspect heavy tribal pressure as the snow has closed a lot of the roads down.  Few are open.   Should be a pretty easy hunt for you.

I'm guessing it wouldn't have been much trouble to find a cow even without the added extra elk.

Good luck losdaddy

Thank you. It was a little tougher to find the elk when I was there, it took some time. But we pulled it off.  Fun hunt that's for sure I enjoyed it.

After calling to verify the rec center was open today to get my card, I show up and they are closed.  Bummer, no access today.  Not looking good for meat in the freezer this year.

They're open 8-4 or 6 tomorrow. I called and spoke with a lady to confirm yesterday and she said closed today.

Thanks Plat.  It's my 11 year old daughters first hunting trip with dad.  At least we'll get the day tomorrow!

It was a great day with my daughter, although we weren't able to locate the animals.  We stuck to the main lines and didn't venture too far on the steep, snow covered side roads.  Beautiful county in there, for sure.
