WDFW Proposed Changes for turkey..
« on: January 24, 2009, 06:03:43 PM »
It looks like the WDFW is proposing that you can only use #4 shot or smaller in shotgun and muzzloader shotgun...no more #2's....Where do you think this came out of...Is there a large portion of turkey hunters using Buckshot or something...wierd.
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!

I've read on a couple forums where some guys liked 2's and I believe one guy was talking buckshot.  Doubt if many are using such turkey hunting, but if so, this would eliminate the use of it.
Bad enough getting hit with 6's....can you imagine someone accidentally flinging buckshot in your direction.

Safety concerns I'm thinking.......probably a good thing.

Wierd. My dad shot a bird 2 years back that had lead #2's in its breast. Guess guys think with bigger shot they can shoot 70+ yards?

I can't fathom why anyone would ever want to shoot anything larger than 4s.  I've seen very few guns that pattern better with bigger shot.  Some pattern as well but the most consistant patterns I've seen were always shot w/ 6s or 5s.

My guess it is ignorance and they're making it analogise to hunting geese since they are similar sized birds.  Bigger bird needs bigger shot mentality.  They don't understand that it's about shooting their head off.

I still have #2 Remingtons from the Olden Golden era...they killed lots of turkeys back when I didn't know how to call very well and relied on my trusty #2's.  I use #5's today...they are my favorite.  I am not sure what size that hevishot comes in or Bismuth...comparable I suppose.
