With the new split on nonresident tags I think I am going to just put in for a pt this year.

I heard AZ made a non resident special draw change this year.
Can someone explain it?

I haven't heard anything on a change for the NR draw, and didn't see anything in the new elk/goat regs.  Anyone else?

So I put in and drew for deer there last year.  My license is still valid until July.  I know I would need to buy a new license to actually go on a hunt if drawn. (sept-Nov)  My question is, can I put my existing license number down to put in my app for draw?  Just saves extra $165 non refundable if I do not get drawn this one time.

20% of all tags go to the guys with the most pts.  Nonresidents are allowed 10% of the tags.  Before this year all 10% could be drawn in the bonus pt pass(the most pt pass).  Starting this year only 5% can be drawn in the bonus pt pass and the other 5% go to the random pass.  Before this year all of the strip tags for nonresidents were only drawn by guys with max pts.  So if you had less than max you had a 0% chance of drawing a strip tag.  Now the tags are broken down 50/50 basically.  I'm sure there is a better way to explain it to make it make more sense but hopefully I explained it well enough.

It did indeed pass, just read it in the hunting fool a couple days ago.  Horrible change for guys with a lot of points but for a guy like me with only 4 for each species.

I've always hated the idea that I could NEVER draw the best tags.  With the old system, between the 10% cap and points creep, a NR would literally never have even the slightest chance of drawing a rifle Strip tag, or the rifle rut bull tags, and a handful of others.  I'm okay with 0.00001% draw odds - at least there's hope.

So if I put in for 23n with one non resident tag up for grabs does that tag go into general pool or do I draw with my 20 points.?
