First and Second choice applications

Do you have as good of a chance with your second choice application as the first choice on special hunt apps?

Yes, the odds of each hunt you apply for won't change with the order you list them on your application.

No. Your first choice is evaluated first. If permits are available your second choice will not be considered.  For example, if your first choice is a 100% draw you will never get your second choice even if it is a 100% draw.

That's an optimistic way to look at it.   ;)

It's the opposite of football: to get to the second round you have to lose the first round. :chuckle:

Well yeah, if your first choice is an  easier draw and you get it, obviously your odds for your second choice is zero. But who puts them in backwards order like that? They should always be in order from hardest to draw to easiest. Of course you don't always know the odds of each hunt, and in that case all you can do is list them in order of your preference.

I would be equally happy with either draw, I chose Blues for my first choice and Kapowsin for my second choice spring bear. You would think if someone else puts Kapowsin as their 1st choice they would have a better chance than if it was my 2nd? Idk hard to understand completely

I would say they should be in the order you want them.  In some cases that may mean a 1st choice is easier to draw than a second. Rare but possible.

Nope, you're not hurting your odds by doing it that way. Your odds are just as good as the other guy who has it as a first choice.

I try for both. If you put an easy to draw permit for number one, your choices listed after that are wasted.

Probably but that may be what you want. Maybe an antlerless permit that is close to home: not the best unit but odds are better and it's a short drive.
