E-Glass

Does anyone fish the E-Glass 9' rods from their downriggers? Just wondering if I made a good choice. Thanks

Well downriggers can be pretty hard on rods.  E-glass is an excellent choice for them because they are bombproof.  Nine foot is a good all around choice but I like the longer 10.5 foot rods even more.

If you are a serious downrigger you should look into the Rainshadow BP rods.  You get the toughness of glass with the sensitivity of graphite.  Gotta build them up yourself though.

Area 11 opens soon for blackmouth.  Should be a great opener!

I've run 9ft Lami E-glass for the last 5 years and love 'em...Was referred to me at Sportco and those guys were right on....Try the Shimano 500 or 600 Tekota reels..What a great set-up!!!

I agree Hoh those Tekotas are an excellent match for the Lamis.  I like the line counters on the Tekotas as well.

For your next E-glass fish-on try a Canadian moocher.  They are a lot of fun to tackle kings on.

I'm sure you have heard of them?  Canadian moochers or Knucklebusters.  It's kind of like the Centerpins the Canadians use.  More like a fly reel on a salmon rod.  I think they are pretty fun to fish.  I was a long time fly fisherman so they seem natural to me.  I think I just went with them because it was something new to try.  They are cheaper then Tekotas as well. A Shimano mooching reel runs $50 versus the $160 Tekota.  That is unless you buy an Islander mooching reel from Canada.

I fished a knucklebuster for the first time this fall. Is was pretty fun to fight Silvers with that reel on a 10'6" rod.
