I received my cf tripod today.  If I had the cash I'd buy every single one. This is a  STEAL!!! Quality is very high on the legs. The head is junk, but the legs deserve a top quality head.

Are you using this for photo only or will it do well for packing in with a spotting scope too?

I have a lighter and less stout one for backcountry hunts, but with my little giottos ball head.....it's not much heavier and WAY stiffer/taller. If you glass standing up. ...it's a solid choice, for sitting,  it's overkill.

I just picked one up. What kind of head would you guys recommend?

manfrotto 128RC is the only way to go.  Watch eBay because pro photographers sell off equipment they buy for a specific shoot all the time.  I have gotten them for a song before.  I have three or four.

I bought one and it is a steal for what you get. The head isn't much though.  I am going to buy another one to use the legs off to build a pack able shooting bench for chuck hunting far from the truck.  The benches I have now weigh twenty-five pounds each and I am going to build a structural foam with fiberglass top and use a set of these legs on it.

I see the price went back up over $200.  They must have sold the quota needed.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Go straight to the source:
https://www.botach.com/brunton-81-230318-carbon-fiber-tripod-4-section-w-removeable-pan-head/

Still $59, but says out of stock.  They had 200 or so a couple days ago. I would keep an eye out to see if they get any more.

$39 for the aluminum version w/head and it says 136 in stock as of right now.
