Onx maps anyone used it?

Just as the title says. Anyone have experience with the onx maps software and if so what did you think? Love it, hate it?

Yes, for phone or for GPS?  It is great for scouting and great for determining if you are on public or private. I really like it. There are better options if you're looking for a GPS option for your phone.
There are a ton of threads on here on this topic from users and from the guys at onXmaps if you use the search function too.
It's a good tool.

I going to spend the $30 and see how well I like it. I'm planning a 2017 hunt in eastern Montana and there have been some shady ranchers moving fences some serious distance into public land. Several years ago a friend got a trespassing ticket on a piece of land that turned out to be public despite what the ranch owner and the officer who issued the ticket claimed. He spent 2 years getting a stupid $100 ticket dismissed just to get the fences moved back to the proper location.

That's unfortunate but at least you would have a defensible case. In Wyoming the officers use the onX software, and it is indicates you are on public land you wouldn't be cited for trespass, even if it were wrong.

I use my iphone and OnXMaps on every hunt... I find it invaluable. Regarding saving the battery. I hunt in an area where service is unavailable so you can download the area(s) you will be hunting and save them in the "cache." I keep my phone in airplane mode 90% of the time. Then, when you need to know where you are and either mark a way point, overlook etc you just turn the airplane mode off and then use the gps feature on the phone in conjunction with the cached maps. Saves the battery in a big way! You could run it constantly but let's be honest, you'll only need to look at it periodically.

I would rather forget my binos than the maps on my phone. If you hunt anywhere near a boundary you are crazy not to have it.
