Multi Season Tag...
« on: March 08, 2016, 08:26:18 PM »
So as far as I can tell applying for this tag is the only way I can assure myself of being able to hunt with both a rifle and bow.  Am I correct?

Yes, at least for the same species...in each specific season.
It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

You can get a modern tag and hunt with modern or archery gear in modern seasons.

Drawing the tag allows you to hunt with all 3 weapons/ plus apply for permits hunts with all 3 weapons.

You can hunt with a bow in a rifle or muzzleloader season. Without the muti tag you can only pick one. Let say you buy a rifle deer tag you can pack your bow during the rifle season.

Good info, but just so he's clear, you can buy a rifle tag and hunt with a bow. You can buy a muzzy tag and hunt with a bow. You can not buy a bow tag and hunt in either rifle or muzzy seasons with your bow. At least that's how I've always interpreted it.......

Thanks! At the risk of offending anyone, what a ridiculous process :)  I've had the opportunity to hunt in PA, NC, and KS.  Those states make it simple...buy a license for the privilege to hunt with a gun.  If you want to use a bow, pony up another $10 or $20.

Things have to be more complicated when there are lots of hunters and not enough game.

Not necessarily so.  It's more about revenue than scientific management. :twocents:

Back in the day, allowing any weapon to be used until you got your 1 animal deer or elk.
saw much more game
didnt worry about gates/permits or any of todays BS
so scientific, I dont think so
more about control and revenue.

I don't see how you can say it's not so. Less area to hunt along with less animals, AND more people, can only result in more complicated regulations. I agree "scientific management" isn't a big part of our wildlife management system in this state, but nevertheless, the reality of having less on the supply side and more on the demand side, is the cause of more regulations. Let's call it "hunter management."

If I'm not mistaken, Wacenturion has some experience to back up his opinions.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

It's a pretty general statement I made, sure didn't expect controversy.  It's really just common sense and doesn't require any intimate knowledge of wildlife management.

I believe you can also hunt with a scoped muzzle loader with 209 ignition during modern season also.  :dunno:

You can do that with the regular modern tag.
the multi also allows you to hunt both sides of the state for elk.
