Places to camp or stay near oak creek?
« on: April 21, 2016, 09:47:39 PM »
Looking for places to stay Saturday night so we can be to oak creek wildlife area relatively quick on Sunday the 1st of May. Never been here before, usually stay local for hiking/shed hunting but my family thought it would be fun to check it out. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

You can stay in the parking lot @ Oak Creek.

If you're waiting for May 1st, you're too late for Oak Creek.

Is that because the antlers are already in someone's house or the lot is already full?

We are looking for Tent, back of truck, or hotel. Thanks for the info, will the parking lot be full of people? How many people have showed up in the past few years?

I would camp at the Nile feed station.

Short drive to Oak Creek.

More than half are probably picked up.  Another 25% or so are stashed/hidden in piles and will promptly be hauled out by the horse guys around 8:00.

Most everyone that waits to do it the legal way will be lucky to find a shed.  A few guys will find one or two, but mark my words, the vast majority will find none.
Who do you think would have went out there and picked them up or stashed them before the gates opened?

I live 4 miles away from the oak creek feeding area, near the Wood Shed. The Nile feed area would be a longer drive than necessary to Oak Creek. Just drive up 410 from 12 a half mile and turn off to your left into the Oak Creek day use area. It's posted with discovery pass signs.

Good luck finding anything. It's like black Friday up there, I avoid it like the plague.

BTW the sheds at OC are already gone for the most part. There's better, virtually unpicked, parts within three miles of Oak Creek.

They don't close the gates from the top. I don't pick up sheds at OC before the first but I know people do.

Yes the parking lot will be full , if I had to put a number on the people going into the main gate @ Oak Creek I'd guess 250. And that's just that gate
