Ling cod aren’t picky, I’ve caught them on bare lead jigs.  It’s just a matter of putting it in front of them.  The crew will fix you up with what you need but if you really want to use your own stuff you might consider large rubber swim baits, they work well.

I like to put shrimp flies above my main hook, I try and find the biggest herring i can get but ling will take anything that passes in front of them. The trick is to get to the bottom and keep there as much as you can. The shrimp flies will hook up black bass and rock fish, as well as an occasional ling. Learn to bottom bounce and don't just keep putting out line. if you can't feel bottom then reel in and go back down. Have a great time
I've slowed down enough in my old age to finally let the game catch up to me

They would probably rather you just use their gear. They have the lines and weights all matched to cut down on tangles with all the lines out. Some won't let you use braid at all. Might want to ask 1st. I'm sure they have decent set-ups. They often use livebait- and if that's what they're using you will want to use it- it's a ling bite every time down.

If you've never been on one of those trips before- they usually go to their ling spots until they have a boat limit-then go to bass spots to limit (or vice versa). Catching fish will not be a problem.

Been on the hula girl bottom fishing with my own rod & reel several times, since I really don't like the Shakespeare pool queues they stock.  You cannot use braid - must be spooled with mono.  I brought a few 6oz leadheads and 8" powerbait grubs after I got a few lings.  Kept me in the action and on bottom longer, and got a few more nice lings that way.
To start, just use your rod/reel with their terminal gear, their bait, their flies and their techniques.  They are out there all the time and know what's up - take advantage of that. If you want to jig a bit, the setup I used should be ok after you get your two lings, especially if you're good at underhand pitching your jig a bit from the boat.   Just don't be "that guy" that insists on bringing the whole tackle box, and then spends half his time getting tangled up with other fishermen because the drift is too fast/too slow for your gear.
