A little help please

I am soon (January 17th) moving to the Tacoma / Boneylake area.  I am really into hunting yotes and cats where I am now (out of state, Southwest).  Is there any predator hunting clubs or groups in that area that a new resident can join?  Looking forward to continuing my passion.  Thanks..

Welcome to the North West.
You will be a good position to hunt what ever you want. There is plenty of public land with in driving range of the area.


I hope you like to hunt the BRUSH, it is BRUSHY over here............unless you head over to the east side of the mountains.

I live in Silverdale. . .which is about 20-30 minutes away from Tacoma. . .drop me an email or a PM when you get up here. . .I recently moved up here from San Diego so I'm relatively new as well. . .I don't have a lot of places scouted out, but there is a LOT of public land open to hunting. . .

+1 on the brush in a BIG way. . .I've been trying the clearcuts, but I'm about ready to go in after the dogs since I haven't seen any in the cuts yet. . .I've seen their tracks on the way in and I've seen new tracks on the way out, but I just haven't actually seen them yet!!! Very frustrating. . .I would suggest a shotgun in addition to the rifle that you are used too. . .I use an 870 Super Mag with #4 buckshot. . .cheaper than the Dead Coyote shot by Hevi-Shot

Consider it done.  I am coming from San Bernardino, just north of your old grounds.  I have E-callers and hand calls.  Just need a place to put them to use.  Can I bring my Contender to these spots....I already have that packed, if not, I have the scatter gun with Coyote Killers.  Now I am getting anxious.  Looking forward to meeting, thanks.

Most of the public land you could/can use a Contender with a centerfire round. . .some of the areas are firearms restricted. . .meaning no centerfire rounds or modern firearms except shotguns, but I've hunted private land in that area trying to help friends/aquaintances get rid of problem dogs that were eating their ducks, chickens, and geese. . .of course I nvever saw any therer but it was better than sitting at home. . .

I've got mouth calls right now. . .I've been practicing and getting better, but every once in a while one of them squeaks on me when I'm tdoing a howl. . .very annoying!!!

I'm saving for a rifle at the moment. . .so right now I just take the 870 Super Mag using #4 buck. . .I might have to break down and get some of that Dead Coyote shot from Hevi-Shot. . .they advertise a reliable range of 75 yards and I've seen more than one person mentioning 80 yds. . .on the "wet side" over here that would cover 90% of my shooting opportunities!!!

Yep, small or big game to hunt dogs, bobcat needs small game.

btlsoom. . .I just got my new .22-250 all sighted in and ready to go!!!

Weatherby Vanguard Varmint Special in .22-250 with a 22" #3 countour heavy barrel, Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42 scope, and a camo'd 14-30" Caldwell bipod. . .now I gotta get a sling 'cause it's a little heavy to carry in one hand for an extended hike. . .especially when the other hand has an 870 Super Mag in it!!!

PM me and we'll have to figure out a time to get together. . .I'm newer to the area, but I know some promising public land that is probably about 1/2 between us. . .

You will need a small game lic to hunt coyotes, a BIG GAME lic will do during big game seasons but you still need the small game license to hunt during the rest of the year. If you purcahse a new license before April 1st 2009, make certain it is for the 2008/2009 year. If you purchase the 2009/2010 license you will have to wait until April 1st 2009 to hunt.

License requirements and fees are set by the Washington State Legislature.
Licenses are based on an April 1-March 31 license year. All license documents are
subject to a dealer fee.

Get a State map and find Capitol Forest, it's just southwest of Olympia. There is some very good hunting there but it is also a off road riding area during several months of the year and draws a good number of ATV and motorcycle riders.

If you go east on I-90 from Seattle, over the pass to Thorpe Wa. you will find the L.T. Murray area. There is some dogs in there and lots of tree huggers too so be cautious if you hunt that. You will also need to open the gate, it's unlocked, just close it once you pass thru, then follow the roads up into that area. It's huge, take a GPS with you. The L.T. Murray may not be open yet due to snow.

I lived in Puyallup for 27 years and have killed few coyotes over on the west side. I will never hunt that area again though. But take a shotgun or a fast handling short rifle and set up on spur roads, use the wind and camo, you will see a few due to the thick brush. You will probably see more fox than anything.
