Got to the hunting camp today. Ya I am hunting red stag.
Got picked up at 830 this am and made it to the lodge right around noon. Had some lunch and got situated. Then we headed to the range for some rifle zeroing and shooting practice. I am using a blazer that the outfit has for use. It is chambered in 7 rem mag and wearing both a can and a Schmidt and bender scope!

Shooting with a can is awesome!
Once we were through with shooting we got dressed in our rain gear and hit the hills.
It is absolutely pouring rain here.
Walking through the brush we came across a pack of feral goats and got to watch them a bit before they spotted us and took off. Later on we got into some stags and elk. Saw a few stags and Hinds (does) and a pretty big bull elk.
We are a bit soggy but back at camp for the night now.

Having a blast, the wife stepped in the wrong spot in one area and ended up knee deep in the mud!  :chuckle: she was almost done right there but we talked her into continuing.
We have wifi at the lodge so I can keep things updated and keep pics flowing.

Which species will you be hunting?

He is hunting red stag...  I am thinking with the timeline change he is being picked up in the next 15min for the first day of the hunt..  I might be off an hr though since my math skills are questionable at times..  Kind of like bullblasters muzzy skills...
:chuckle:

I forgot to say in my last post, but we were hearing the stags roaring pretty good for a while this afternoon.

Our guide James is going to be picking us up soon to head out hunting this morning. The rain seems to have let up overnight so hopefully it won't be as soggy this morning as yesterday.

I think it's story time while we wait for the next update.

Had a fun hunt this morning. Bumped a fallow buck right athe beginning and it ran right out of the brush at us and got to about 10 yards before veering to our side. Wasn't expecting it to come right at us.  :chuckle:

Located a bachelor group of stags, one was really nice. Got a decent look and decided I'd try and shoot that one.
Of course right when I decided that they saw us and took off. Tried to locate them again but they went into the thick brush. We did bump a stag from its bed in the brush. But couldn't get a good look. Just saw flashes of it as it ran away.

After that we climbed up high and set up and did some glassing. Spotted a fallow doe and fawn.
Rain held off so it wasn't real wet this morning.
In all we made a 3.5-4 mile hike.

I think it's story time while we wait for the next update.

So Bullblaster and I met last summer when he pulled a muzzy bull tag in a unit that I know well.  He came over to scout so I hooked up with him and coop2424 for some glassing and jaw jacking.  I showed him all my secret spots, lined him out on his map, and since I was at least 60% certain he wasn't an axe weilding rapist/murderer, invited him to crash at my house for the week of his hunt.

Hunt gets here, he is all settled into the kids play room, my daughter conned him out of hundreds by selling him veggies from our garden (sucker), and his muzzy is dialed in.  I wasn't able to hunt with him due to work but every circle I made on his map contained a 6pt bull.  Spot after spot after spot he hiked into.  Bull after bull after bull, practically threw themselves at Bullblasters feet.  Night after night after night we cleaned his muzzy and reloaded all his quick loads.  Unfortunetely he only brought one pound of powder and a couple boxes of bullets so he was unable to fill his tag
