I have tried probably a dozen different recipes using garlic powder, cayenne, black pepper, onion powder, etc. etc.  I like to buy the tubs of pre-shucked, small oysters (or cut large ones in pieces).  I usually pick some up from Lytle's when we get out to Ocean Shores.  They are perfectly seasoned with just the sea salt.  I line my smoker racks with parchment and smoke away.  Flip them over an hour into smoking and do the other side for about an hour.  They come out perfect.  I usually smoke at about 175 or so.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice
