A Good Place to Start
« on: May 21, 2016, 02:30:48 PM »
Ladies and gents thank you all for letting me be a part of your forum. I am active duty military and got stationed in Washington about a year go. I grew up bow hunting whitetail in Virginia and managed to make it out for the end of the season last year and got bit by the elk hunting bug and now I'm hooked. This year I got an eastern archery tag and am planning on hunting in the 328/329 and any open units southwest of Ellensburg. I want to get out and do a lot of scouting this summer so i was wondering if anyone could help me out with a good place to start?  I am unsure of my schedule on whether I will be able to hunt early or late season. Is there any better area to focus on in the late season vs early as far as elevation or closer/further from Rainier national park or Columbia River? Am I looking for areas that border agricultural lands or can I find solid herds up in the higher areas? Any help would be much appreciated!!

I would say if you are going to hunt 328/329 get off at the kittitas exit and  head north out of town. Get above the farmlands and hit one of the several dirt roads. Make sure you are on public land and start from there. There is so much land to hunt from what I told you it's just finding a spot you like and where the elk are. Hope that helps.

Welcome to the site, wish i could help you out more should get plenty of help from others and thank you for your service.  Grew up here but went to college in Lynchburg, VA, definitely two different worlds when it comes to hunting.  Best of luck!
