17hmr????

i am thinking about getting a 17hmr for plinking and hunting varmint's. what do you think about them are they worth getting? are they good for varmints? are they a accurate gun any help will be a big help.

.17HMR is a fun round.  Accurate as all hell.  Great for ground squirrels and rabbits.  I have a Marlin and will never get rid of it.

I have a savage with the bull-barrel and I just love it.  It is a fast, accurate round to shoot.  I would buy a .22 first, but if you already have a .22 go for it!

God Aweful expensive to shoot for what you get.  Personally they don't do anything a 22 rimfire in either LR or Mag do.  Plus you don't need a new cleaning rod and jags.  Fun to have a new caliber, but if this is not just a novelty gun then I would get a 22.  But if you want one then get one as they work great.  Any excuse for a new gun is a good one.

I don't think it is too light for 'yotes as long as you keep your shots under 125 or so yards.  They make a really good 20gr round that is made for coyotes.

I recently shot a coyote with mine and it was basicly bang flop. That being said I will have to agree that its a little lite for coyotes. but if its what ya got and there's a coyote I'd give him one :twocents:My question is; is it to lite for bobcats? or coons?

I had one for a couple years then sold it. Kind of a novelty gun IMO. Super loud, tough to see your targets since the hole is so small. I had around $750 bucks wrapped up in it all said and done. I don't really have a desire for another one, I might change my mind when my kid needs a plinker. I honestly have more fun with my .22 mag.
