tuna fishing ?
« on: June 08, 2016, 12:44:35 AM »
Hi all,
Where and when would be a good time to book a tuna charter? Does it make sense to go down to ilwaco / nw oregon versus Westport? Any recommendations for charters? Thanks for the help, much appreciated.  Jackson

I took a trip with one of Mark Colemans boats last year and had a great time.  They do one day trips and its fast paced.  We were back to the dock with a plugged boat (47 tuna) by noon, right about the same time the big boats were just getting to tuna grounds.  They take 6 guys on 29' Defiance boats, so its not the bigger charter boats and when things get started it can be organized chaos.  I found it fun, but if youre looking to relax and fish a bit then youre better off on the bigger boats.

They started at the beginning of July and were catching fish but they werent filling boats with fish until mid-July if I remember correctly.  I took my trip in late July and we had no problem filling the boat.

You can't go wrong with any of the six pack express charter boats out of Westport. Far corners, tailwalker, Todd girtz, the list goes on..

Any of the 6 pack boats are great ... just make sure and go out of Ilwaco or Westport. They are the only ports with live bait.

I've done a fair bit of fishing with Todd, you are going to have a great trip! Just make sure and get plenty of sleep the night before, he will fish you hard!

I need to try this!! Big boat, hard to beat the StarFire or the Freedom out of Westport.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!
