I drew Entiat archery with 7 pts.  Initially super excited but now...a bit nervous honestly.

In my years of looking at bucks and reading stories of the hunts in the Entiat I seemed to gloss over the parts about bad roads and chains.   Been saving for that 4-wheel drive. Looks like that better happen sooner than later.

I'd love to bend anyone's ear about places to camp, local hotel dives, or past experiences on this hunt.

Muzzy Bull in the Mudflow.
My daughter has been trying for that tag for a while.  Good luck with it!!

We will see how it goes. My cousins boy had the archery cow tag last year. Said it was allot of fun.

Muzzy Bull in the Mudflow.  That will be after 2 weeks in Hells canyon for Archery elk. I am going to need a week of sleep when I get back!!!

Mudflow be a fun one that's the one I tried to draw this year for muzzy went shed hunting in there earlier this spring saw some dandy bulls that were still packing this year

Good to know.  I had the Toutle Bull tag back in 05. Saw a bunch of nice Rosie's up around castle lake. Should be some fun hiking. Hopefully I can pull a decent representation of a Mt St Helens elk. Fat 5X 240 to 250 class. I think that is a respectable elk  from what I have seen in the area.

Nothing for me this year... I went in with 6 points for Elk and 5 for Deer. Dad went in with 6 for Elk and 5 for Deer and he was drawn for a Anterless Tag for Winston.

Should be meat in the freezer if we can find one that's NOT limping!!

Best place to camp during that season is along Mud Creek Road.  Cooper's Store in Ardenvoir has traditionally been the spot for trading information.

You can have a hunt w/o 4wd but will have to hump some terrain and will be limited - 4wd and chains are really nice.  If you can't buy one by then, consider using some of that savings and renting one.

Good options for cheap hotel lodging are in Chelan and Wenatchee.

If there is snow cover you'll see more deer, if there is not, good binoculars and a spotting scope are really key.  The light is likely to be really flat and grey, easy to overlook game if no snowcover.  You may get frustrated by persistent elevation bands of fog.

There is still some rutting going on but it is primarily post-breeding behavior.  Find bucks that are feeding rather than chasing does, and watch them until they bed.  Or glass up bedded bucks.  Plan a sneak.  have fun!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Thanks for taking the time Doublelung to provide such a worthwhile response. I love that about this website. Hopefully after I'm done with my Entiat hunt I can share what I've learned and pass it on to one of next year's tag winners.

I think the four-wheel drive is gonna be in the cards for this year's hunt. I'll invest in some quality chains all around to be ready.

Thanks again for the direction and insight. Better hone my spot and stalk skills during the early season!  Looking forward to laying it all out there for a hard earned archery buck.

As a Wenatchee resident for 20+ years, I've hunted the Entiat area a bit, for bear and deer. Have also hiked, x-c skied, and used my mountain bike in there. Backpacked too. There are some elk, but... I haven't ever seen many, or much sign.

Good luck!
