You probably already know, but this unit is about 90% private property. I would start asking for permission as soon as you can.

Drew the tag 5 or 6 years ago.  Don't know if I saw any public land, but there was a lot of feel free to hunt land and hunt by written permission.  Not sure if that is still the case.  Lots of deer during my hunt, but frozen snow and wide open made archery hunting tough.  Of the 100's of deer I saw, only 1 was a 4 point and he wasn't huge.  Lot's of young bucks.  Fun hunt and ended up sticking a small forked horn on last day.
Get access to as much private land as possible.

The deer will be grouped up and will spend a majority of the day in the winter wheat fields.

Your best bet for success will be on the windy days when the deer head down into the rocks/draws.   You should see a lot of deer; the big bucks are pretty few and far between, though.

As others have said, get permission to hunt private. This is a general rifle season buck.

if you're not too far away, I suggest you take a drive and look for the feel free to hunt or hunt by permission signs. The hunt by permission signs will have the land owner phone number on them. WDFW will not give that info over the phone. Lord knows I've tried. With farming activity in full swing, you may be able to speak with folks face to face, which would probably be best. Hope that helps
